Chaotic Scenes Unfold in Dublin Following Stabbing Incident Near School

In Dublin, chaos erupted after a stabbing incident near Gaelscoil Choláiste Mhuire left three children injured, triggering violent protests. The incident occurred around 1:30 pm on Thursday, resulting in the closure of the renowned Blue Lagoon for a week due to continuous seismic activity.

The attacker, a man in his 50s, was detained and treated for injuries, with authorities assuring that no other suspects were being sought. Anti-immigrant groups gathered, alleging the attacker’s foreign origin.

The Meteorological Department reported over 1,400 earthquakes, with a magnitude 4.8 quake being the strongest. This seismic activity prompted the closure of the Blue Lagoon, impacting transportation services and leading to clashes between protesters and police.

Supt Liam Geraghty stated that the detained man is a “person of interest,” commending bystanders who intervened during the traumatic incident. Garda Commissioner Drew Harris emphasized the ongoing investigation’s early stage, cautioning against assigning motives prematurely.

As night fell, violent scenes unfolded in Dublin, with protesters setting a police car and a tram on fire. Riot police engaged with the crowd, leading to clashes and property damage. Harris condemned the disorder, attributing it to a “complete lunatic faction driven by far-right ideology.”

Authorities called for calm and warned against misinformation, stressing the need for responsible behavior. Irish Justice Minister Helen McEntee decried the violent scenes, vowing not to tolerate such actions.

Gaelscoil Choláiste Mhuire, the school near the incident, faced unprecedented challenges. Witnesses described the chaotic aftermath, including bystanders disarming the attacker and emergency services swiftly responding to the scene.
